Founding Partner, Henry (“Hank”) Feuerzeig, was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 12, 1938. After attending undergrad at the University of Wisconsin, he attended law school at George Washington University, and graduated in 1970. He was then admitted to District of Columbia Bar in 1970, the Maryland Bar in 1973, and both the US Virgin Islands and Florida Bars in 1974.
Hank was an active member of the US Virgin Islands Bar Association and acted as Secretary in 1974, President-elect in 1975, and President in 1975. He was a member of , Judicial Administration Division, Lawyers Conference Judicial Evaluation Committee, 1984-1985, Lawyers Conference Judicial Performance and Conduct Committee, 1986, Litigation Section, Family Law Section Bar Associations.
Hank served on the Municipal Court from 1976 to 1977 as it was transitioning to the Territorial Court, where he then served as a Territorial judge from 1977 to 1987. He was also a Delegate to the Fourth Constitutional Convention. He was also a Chairman of the Judicial Powers Committee of 1981. Hank was instrumental in the transition from the Municipal to Territorial Court, leaving an everlasting mark on the practice of law in the US Virgin Islands.
When Hank decided it was time to step off the bench, he joined forces with George H.T. Dudley and Mark Topper to form Dudley, Topper and Feuerzeig, LLP in 1987, which then evolved to Dudley Newman Feuerzeig LLP 2019. Hank was an dedicated and meticulous attorney who worked tirelessly for his clients and the firm. As a lead Partner in the Litigation department, Hank represented countless corporations, individuals and community members throughout his career. Hank was passionate about educating those around him and took many young, inexperienced attorneys under his tutelage and share his experience and wisdom.
Hank’s commitment did not stop at the firm, he was extremely involved in the St. Thomas community and gave much of his free time to charitable organizations. He was a an active member of the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, the Rotary, the Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas, and many other charitable organizations throughout his life.
Hank loved golf, the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and swimming – he could often be seen in the mornings taking a brisk walk along the sandy shores of Magen’s Bay beach. Most memorably, he loved Carnival season in both St. Thomas and St. John and was sure to be spotted along the parade routes, smiling with his family year after year.
Hank’s life is a tough one to put into words, one built on hard work, community and giving back. The firm was lucky to have him for as long as we did and we look forward to honoring his name and legacy in years to come.
